Geladen wird’s von vorn,
Mit Pulver und mit Horn,
solch Ende tut nicht weh.
Da geht ein armer Tropf.
Trara, Palim, dass ich am End zufrieden bin,
so bar von jeder Scham,
das überrascht.
Doch horcht! Wer spricht so leise durch die Kammertür?
Wer flüstert nur durchs Schlüsselloch und wagt sich nicht herfür?
Ein Dämon, der den Zweifel wagt, von Anstand und von Sitte,
ein Geist, den jähe Reue plagt, das Wissen um die Mitte,
die, sagt man, gutes Leben prägt, und Rettung sei der Seele;
nur all zu schwer erreichen kann, dass man sie nicht verfehle.
Ein Wahn ist es, der Reden glaubt, von Ordnung und von Sinn,
von einem Grund des Lebens spricht, so tief und so weit hin,
dass er als steter Horizont am Ende dieser Welt,
und jener mächtgen Sonne gleich, das Innerste erhellt.
Ich kenne dieses Hoffen auch, ich weiß um jenes Licht,
einst blendete es mich selbst, drum misse ich es nicht.
Und wenn du noch geblendet bist und dich dein Sinn belügt?
Wenn dich die andre Hoffnung nun statt dem von Neuem trügt?
Ein Hoffen ist’s, ich leugne nicht, denn Hoffnung trägt die Welt,
doch weder Glaub noch Sinn ist es, was diese Hoffnung hält.
Ein Ende bloß, kein Zugewinn, ist mir nunmehr zum Ziel,
verlangt man Nichts und Niemanden, so will man kaum zu viel.
